Moroccan inspired meatballs


A great variation on a simple meatballs in tomato sauce. With a simple adjustment in the spices it just becomes a bit more special. We absolutely love this dish and have been making it for years and have always been adjusting the recipe and we feel now it's just so good! We usually eat this with roasted peppers. But it goes great with quinoa as well if you like something with it to mix in with the sauce.


Ingredients:

for 2

Meatballs

- 400 grams ground beef

- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

-1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

- 1/4 teaspoon cumin

- salt and pepper


Sauce

- 1 onion (chopped in small pieces)

- 1 clove fresh garlic (chopped fine)

- 1 can of crushed tomatoes

- 1 teaspoon dried basil

- 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes

- 3 teaspoons brown sugar

-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

- 1 teaspoon cumin

-1/4 cup milk


Recipe Meatballs

- Mix the spices into the beef

- Roll the spiced beef into balls (we make 6 meatballs)

- Cook the meatballs for a few minutes in a skillet with oil on high heat. Until they are brown . While the meatballs or on start on the sauce


Sauce:

- in a sauce pan start with frying the onion on medium heat in some oil

- When the onion turns glossy and translucent add the crushed garlic

- After 2 minutes add the crushed tomatoes

- Add the herbs, spices, sugar and milk - When the meatballs are nice and brown add them to the sauce

- Put a lid on the pan and let it simmer on low heat while stirring once in a while. Cook until meatballs are fully cooked, about 20 ,minutes.


Like we said this recipe is great with quinoa and/or roasted peppers (we just add garlic, salt, pepper, and bit of cumin to chopped peppers, toss it with some olive oil and put it in the oven for about 30 minutes, which is really delicious)
