We really love Mc Donalds food, whenever we were on a road trip we would always stop at a Mc Donalds for a Big Mac. Now with trying to be healthier we skip the fast food stops on road trips and bring healthier snacks with us.
But however much we tried to forget about our favourite fast food, we kept missing the Big Mac. So we decided to make it as a salad in a bowl. With of course the Big Mac sauce as the most important component. We did our research into different recipes, but noting came close enough for us. We kept changing it adding things and leaving things out until we finally had the sauce just how we liked it. There are many different recipes for this sauce on line but trust me ours is definitely the best :-)
Now of course the sauce is very important but we figured out to make it really taste like a Big Mac spicing the meat right also has a very big part in it. The meat in the Big Mac burger has such a specific taste that however good your sauce is, if you don't spice the meat it will never taste the same. This for us was just try and try and try again until we had the taste we wanted. Now we are so happy with our recipe, and whenever we crave junk food we make this. (and we make it a lot more than we like to admit)

We love to eat it with this sauce as it tastes like our favourite burger, but of course you can adjust it to taste like your favourite! Add different sauces and ingredients and make your own favourite burger into a bowl.
For the burger meat:
ground beef 500 grams
1 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
salt and pepper to taste
We make the meat in a cast iron pan and fry it very hot so that the meat gets that grill flavour a bit more. We put some vegetable oil in the pan until hot, add the meat and spices and fry it until its a bit crispy.
2 cup mayonaise
1/4 cup mustard
1/2 cup relish
2 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoon white wine vinegar
2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 teaspoon paprika powder
mix all ingredients in a bowl. We like to make the sauce a few hours before we use it if we have the time. Somehow its gets better if it sits for a bit. Just keep it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
to assemble the bowl:
This is were it gets a bit more flexible as you can adjust the bowl how you like it. The sauce and meat is important to make it taste like a Big Mac but you can add more off ingredients that you like or leave out what you dislike. We add shredded lettuce to our bowl as the base and add very finely chopped onions, pickles and grated cheddar cheese. But again this is were you can change it into whatever you like. Add the meat and sauce, mix it all up and enjoy your fast food without the guilt ;-)
